Decorated Cookie Mix Jars

When trying to figure out a fun an inexpensive gift to make for a lot of my sorority sisters at once, I decided that making cookie jars might be the perfect gift.
To make these jars, you will need the following:
  • mason jars with lids
  • ribbon
  • rubber band
  • enough fabric to cover the top of the jar (a 1/4 yd will be plenty to make a couple of jars
  • sharpie paint pens--i used pink and green for my sorority colors (i love this brand because they have always been successful paint pens---i have used other pens that were messy and hard to work with)
  • black sharpie ultra fine tip permanent marker
  • ingredients for your layered cookie mix (i searched online for a recipe and chose a layered butterscotch cookie mix for my jars)
To make these jars is pretty self explanatory if you are a long time crafter like myself, but I will include a brief description on how i made these. First, I painted the greek letters on the jars. I just free-handed the letters because I have writen the greek letters many times for other projects.  After my base-coat was dry, I embellished the letters with stripes or polk-a-dots using the opposite color (if green was my base i used pink for stripes or if pink was my base i would use green for polk-a-dots). Then i outlined the letters (after they were dry) with the black sharpie. It took me a couple of coats of the paint pens to make the letters looked just right.  After the jar is dry, I filled it with my cookie mix and closed the lid. Then I finished up the jars by covering the lid with fabric, placing the rubber band around the fabric on the lid, and tying a ribbon around it.
